Heartburn

Heartburn is called when a person feels burning sensation in the center of the chest. This burning can start from the chest through windpipe to throat. Burning sensation is because of the mixing of acids in our body, and if the proportion or the body produces more acid then it starts to give burning sensation in the body. Because of it there is a possibility that the excess of acid comes out through throat. This burning sensation may increase in the body, if the body is found in a horizontal position like sleeping or bending down. As the name suggests “Heartburn” it is nothing to do with problems related to heart. Some of the symptoms of heartburn are related to heart attack. The name heartburn is mainly because of the burning sensation in the center of the chest behind the breastbone, that is the place where heart is placed. Sometimes people suffering from heartburn may experience chronic coughing which may seem like asthma attack.

Abdominal pain, headaches, indigestion, belching are some of the symptoms that may occur along with heartburn.

Heartburn can cause because of caffeine, chocolate, citrus fruits, fish, milk, onion, orange, shellfish, sugar, antibiotics, aspirin etc.

Camomile, ginger, meadowsweet infusion teas help in overcoming the heartburn.

Argentum nitricum, Natrum phosphoricum and obina these are few of the homeopathic remedies given particularly for heartburn with headaches.

Antacid medication helps in neutralizing the acid in the stomach. To name a few of the antacid agents like magnesium hydroxide, magnesium trisilicate, sodium bicarbonate etc.

To avoid or prevent from such heartburns follow some of the steps or rules in your day to day life and be free from heartburns.

  • Tend to have small meals in a day. Whatever meal you have make sure that you don’t eat just before bedtime.
  • It is always better to wear loose clothing especially jeans and paints. This is because the tight clothing on the abdominal area puts more pressure on the stomach. Because of such pressure the food and the acid in the stomach would be pushed and this may cause heartburn.
  • Remember to keep your head on the higher side of the bed with the help of pillows.
  • If you feel that heartburns then eat live yoghurt to neutralize the acid of the body.
  • Vinegar or lemon juice in hot water may help to metabolize and neutralize excess of acidity from the body.
