Urticaria

Urticaria is one of the skin problem which people come across as one of the skin reaction. Urticaria is also known as hives or nettle rash. The symptoms may look like skin becomes red, itchy and sometimes even swollen. Urticaria occurs on the upper layer of the skin. The weals appear on the skin in different size and it can appear anywhere on the body. It is normally observed that Urticaria is caused mostly because of the histamine. As mentioned that Urticaria is a skin reaction, but this skin reaction is caused because of either food or drug or latex. Angioedema, itching and hay fever are some of the other symptoms seen along with Urticaria. Acetic acid, butyl alcohol, benzophenones, cinnamic acid phenol, beer, cider, wine, enzymes, melon, beef, apricot, pineapple, food color, food preservatives, emulsifiers, insect bites or stings, antibiotics like penicillin, ibuprofen or codeine, neomycin, streptomycin, pollen, rubbing of skin, menthol, butyric acid.

Urticaria Treatment

  • Aloe vera is applied on the skin to treat urticaria. It soothes the skin and cools the burning sensation on the skin. It is also found from studies that Aloe vera helps in tissue regeneration.
  • Cabbage leaf needs to be applied on the affected area.
  • Sliced onion may also help
  • Heartsese is used as a skin wash.
  • For itchy rashes Urtica urens is given as a medicine, Apis is given when the skin is found swellon, puffed and burning pain, Natrum mur and Pulsatilla are the homeopathic medicine given for urticaria problems.
  • Calamine lotion and Witch hazel is used as OTC remedy.
  • Antihistamines, steroids an emollients are the medicine.
  • Bicarbonate of soda is also used in treating Urticaria.
  • The pH of the skin is restored and maintained by cider vinegar.
  • Ice packs may help to relieve from itching.
